Dave (32model901), whatever it is, it looks great and embodies the spirit of the time. Thanks for sharing.

Though quite sure its not a Goddess of Speed (gender's wrong), I tried to buy it anyway. Only succeeded in taking the bid from 31 GBP to 63 GBP, which was my limit for a novelty.

A god of speed vs. the goddess?

Maybe a Packard novelty from an East Block country?

Has that '30's art deco look + the strong design lines vs. the flowing lines of the typical Packard Mascot's.

Its Duesenberg, made by F. Bazin. If anyone else bidding knows what it is, it will go for $600-700... unless it is determined that it's a reproduction. It'll still probably fetch pretty big bucks.

--> This AACA thread looks similar (and the discussed mascot).

Dave (32model901), if this mascot would have been produced behind the iron curtain, you probably wouldn't like it. Well, exceptions prove the rule.

West, good to know. Especially the styling of the underpants and head covering show classic Art Deco features.

Duesenberg it is. According tohttp://ken-thornton.com/m_approved.html this was, "Duesenberg 1931-1937 ( #468 ) ~ American Chrome Plated Bronze ~ Unsigned MM plate 78".

He's got some really nice mascots on his site.

Well seeing as its located only about 20 miles from me I might have a bit of a bid on that.

I have a small collection of mascots from a number of years back (when I thought I'd never afford the whole car I figured that I'd just collect the mascots).

The problem is that there are so many reproductions about and the market is swamped with sellers who try to pass them off as genuine. This was one of the reasons I stopped collecting as I felt that I didn't know enough about them to spot the genuine from the copy.

I'm a bit more savvy now but if that one was to go for more than ?120 I would definitely have to go and inspect it first - I'd say there was a 50% chance its a copy.

West has perhaps debunked it as a copy on another forum..

http://forums.aaca.org/f169/ornament-identification-317970.html

The seller also popped up on there too.

The Isotta Frachini mascot is very similar and the seller now says that the makers mark is visible on the base. Supposedly it says F Bazin which I think the consensus says links it definitely with the Isotta Fraschini.

Were Deusenbergs made by Bazin also?

However the shape is most defnintely Duesenberg. The seller says his "notes" list it at an Isotta but the stamped ID is crudely done.

So, Watson, I conclude that the faker / seller thought it was a copy of an Isotta and put that artists name on it. But its a copy of a Duesey and the faked mark gives it away.

As I said, so many fakes - I wont be bidding after all.

Still nice though.....

Interesting. It seems the only difference between the Duesenberg and the Isotta is the angle.
