my starter broke the housing today by starting the car . ineed a starter for a 53 packard if possible a 12 volt

Did that happen using a 12V battery? The reason I ask is that it's the second time I've seen that problem on this forum. Same thing happened to africapackard's (Barrie's) starter when he used 12v to crank it.

in his case the bendix gear was also destroyed.

Edit: never mind... question was answered here.

I guess in discussions of 12 volt conversions it might be advisable to say that the conversion could/might be hard on the 6V starter.

Will a V8 starter fit an I8? I note they both have 9 tooth pinions but how about other vitals such as bolt spacing or engagement depth?
