That is without a doubt one of the most outrageous "cars" that I have ever read about. I can't believe anyone would ever consider putting a Packard marine engine on an automobile frame. It's totally off the wall! Driving a car like that would of course be a harrowing experience.

One thing, though, this is an awesome "hot-rod" Packard! I would put his up against any hot rod Chevy or Ford any day. I do think that out of respect, the owner of this car should refer to it as a Bentley-Packard. After all, the engine that powers it should receive some semblance of respect, eh?

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...

Back in the old days the Indy 500 was an "anything goes" derby.

Cars were showing up with radial air plane motors.

Later they put those motors in tanks.

Having checked out the Bentley, I propose that someone should build a Packard powered by a Rolls-Royce jet engine. The picture below could serve as a prototype.

HHmmmmm....

We have one of those 4M-2500 PT Boat Engines out at the PPG.

Wonder what we could shoehorn it into???

Have to love the sound of it.

Roger,

Thanks for the Packard V-12 pre-Geneseo airshow warmup. Damn, that felt good. Weather here looks like it is going to break for three sunny days of Merlin power Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Plus East Grand Packards will be in attendance for the classic car show.

That Packard powered Bentley is even more outrageous than Jay Leno's Tank Car. The Packard V-12 is 42L and the M-47 Patton engine in Jay's is *ONLY* 30L!!!

It appears from the road test that it could use some power-assisted steering.

I recall Jay driving his tank engine powered special around the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event one year. He drove it over the reviewing stand during a lull in the activities. It made a lot of noise and a big impression. I can only imagine what the Packard powered Bentley must sound and look like going down the road.

Wondering how you can keep that thing cool! Usually marine engines have no worries about cooling cause there's enough water around. Not sure how you would fix that with this massive engine.
My dad purchased a caterpillar marine diesel engine in 1980, and the 4th owner told him that it has 80,000 hrs on it now, and it never been overhauled!
