I have a blown exhaust manifold gasket on my 1949 356cid engine. I'm having trouble separating the manifolds from the block so I can insert the new gaskets. What's the secret? Also, is there anything I should be especially aware of when I reassemble things?

You must remove all the nuts, washers and retainers, some may be difficult to reach and may have to be loosened from below the manifold. You need triple jointed fingers perhaps

You'll probably have to remove the fasteners where the manifold connects to the exhaust down-pipe to give you enough freedom of movement. DO NO separate the exhaust and intake manifolds unless you absolutely have too.

Use lots of penetrator on those fasteners, they will need it.
