My battery at full charge measures 6.2 volts..battery disconnected from car.. Should I go ahead and buy a new battery to avoid the danger which is yet to come??

If you are worried about your battery take it to the autoparts store and have them do a battery test on it.

A simple voltage reading of a battery at rest isn't a very good indicator of battery health. As Kev suggests, take it somewhere and have it "load-tested".
