Service Index Missing Content Drive

We are trying to build a complete Service Index to make it easier for someone to locate all the information for their particular car. Currently Brian has done outstanding work in building the the 51-54, and 55-56 Indexes. Over time we want to be able to extend that work as far back as possible. But to do so we need to fill in the missing content that is used to build the indexes. So in this thread we will try to list everything that we are missing. Brian and I really need some help in trying to locate these missing pieces. I have tried to purchase as much as I can for the website, but I have a limited budget. So please look through your personal collections and see if there is anything you are able to scan or photocopy to help out the website.

Service Technical Bulletins (STB's)
While we have the majority of the the Dealer STB's there are important nuggets of information that were in Zone Only STB's. These are pretty hard to find, but we would like to have them for the Website Archive and the Service Index database.

Kev -

Regarding your reference to "Missing Trade Letters...All except T-3047, DTL-278", I believe what you may be looking for are Technical Letters (printed on general factory letterhead, IIRC), which were later supplanted by the Service Technical Bulletin series (printed on their own dedicated letterhead).

Kevin, I have an original Packard Service Manual for 1946 -1950. I notice that this manual is not on the site. It is a large publication, probably 500 pages. It is comprehensive and can be useful to those with these cars. There should be no copyright issues since it is not a reproduction. I would be willing to lend it to you to scan and place in the literature and manuals section. The scanning will be a huge job. Interested?

Kev, I've got two versions of the 1933-34 Service Letters. The first is the PAC repro which deleted all the sales chatter and first pages of each issue, so really it's just the meat of the technical info, useful but not correct. May or may not be a copyright issue?

But I also have ancient Thermofax copies of the originals, not in great shape, corners crumbling and background no longer white but quite brown, and thus would require some Photoshop work to make them presentable - it will be a longterm project for me but I will start on it as time permits.

JW,

Thanks for the offer, but the 1946-1950 Manual is already here on the website:

https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/article/view.article.php?300

So no need to scan all those pages again!

Thanks,

Dave,

I think I would be interested in the Thermo-fax versions. I want to maintain the page structure of the original documents as much as possible. Plus I don't want any issues with PAC over copyright.

I have a top of the line straight-path scanner here in the office that has some amazing capabilities of taking hard to read documents and making them damn near crystal clear in some cases. The scanner is an industrial one ($2000+), and I have seen it take Oil Well Deeds from the 1890s that were hard to read with the naked eye due to the browning of the paper, and make it looks like it was recently printed on clean white stock. It's pretty neat stuff. It works really well on text documents. Will have to see what it would do with the illustrations and pictures in those documents.

So I would be willing to scan the services letter here., and then I will send them back to you with clean copies as well.

Brian, you are of course correct. Previous post fixed.

Thanks for your BOLO, Kev.

I did a lot of research (not just for the V8s, but even beyond the postwar years) to help build this Index and connect the dots to arrive at the backstory, but I don't know everything.

Hats off to everyone who has contributed original material thusfar, but there are still plenty of blanks to fill in before we know the rest of story.

Hopefully, others will continue to step up to the plate with new donations of the missing material.
