Just a little more removed. So far, I've only snapped one bolt. Hopefully my luck holds out as I tackle the drivers side.

I can't help feeling a little overwhelmed. Every piece I remove, I find more work that has to be done. I just have to try and stay focused on one thing at a time. My goal is to have it back together in time for the "Back to the 50's" car show next spring.

I went down to the steel yard this afternoon and picked up some supplies for a new project. Hopefully when finished, it will be a big help with the Clipper. More as that unfurls.

Been working on building my body lift to get the body off the frame. I think it's going to be a bit easier to work on the floors and such with it up in the air.

I got the plans for the lift a couple months ago and started gathering the necessary provisions. After a couple bottles of argon (I need to buy a bigger bottle) I finally got it done. The legs telescope to lift the body a little over 3 feet off the ground. Plenty of room to work. Also in the plans are hoops that will allow you to roll the body on it's side or upside down for easier access. I'm planning to build those as well.

I've never taken a car body off the frame before, so it was a little slow going. But, with a little time, I got it up in the air and rolled the frame out in back of the shop. I put the fenders back on the frame just to get them off the floor and out of my way for the time being.

Now I guess I have to actually start repairing the rust.

Very nice. Sure beats the heck out of 4x4's and cinder blocks. Hope you kept track of the shims and spacer thicknesses at the body bolt locations for when it comes time to put back together. I didn't and learned it would have been a good idea. Still planning on using the bed liner material & casting new ones?

I did keep track, but they sure aren't going to be much help. Most were completely deteriorated and squished beyond recognition.

I am still planning on making my own bushings, but that step is a ways off.

I'm starting to doubt my goal of driving it next June.

Worked for me too, as well as a 4x4 rolling frame I finally built when the non mobile cinder blocks got too much of a pain. Wood takes up a lot of space, but fortunately I didn't have all the rust to contend with that Keegan does.

Still if it were to be done over would have made other arrangements--and kept better track of the shims & rubber. The rubber only comes in a few sizes & configurations which was relatively easy to figure out. Trying to remember a year or two later whether a location had 0 or several shims was a bad mistake. Moral: when a door doesn't align or needs a slam, look to the shims. Unfortunately there are a multitude of combinations and probably only one correct for that body.

can someone verify the rear spring shackel REAR mounts???? That does not look rite to me. I don't know. I've never seen a standard chassis 55 or 56 Clipper.


How high was the body raised????? MEasurement taken at what point on the body???

The rear spring shackle mounts look just like my old '53 Clippers, I would imagine that's what they used for the standard suspension V8 cars as well.

i am confused as to where all the body mount ears are on the sides of the frame i only see two on each side. or is that the way it is supposed to be.

i see what i think are rivot holes for them, but nothing there.
