I bought a pair of 47 Packard's. one was mostly complete, engine and transmission intact not running. the other torn apart. engine mostly disassembled transmission case gutted and much more of the car torn down.

going to work to restore the one that's together and possibly hotrod the other car.

considering rebuilding the torn apart motor but don't know if cost effective that its worth it. it is in rough shape. rust in the cylinder bores, oil pan off, head is off, side cover is off.

casting date on the block is 12/20/46.

not sure what value they have complete and running v.s rough and apart.

The answer depends on, among other things, which engine and which bodystyle on the car. There was a six, a 282 in3 eight, and a 356 in3 eight. Packard offered a two door fastback called a club sedan, a four door sedan, and a long wheelbase seven passenger sedan with and without division window.

oops, didn't read your title on the post. A 356 is a Senior model, and a wonderful engine. Why make it into a Chevy?

Body style comment still applies.

Custom 8 sedans - magnificent, distinctive interiors (and quite expensive to redo properly)

I'll have to get some photos around and get it in the registry. the one is mostly complete with lots of parts with it. I probably won't end up doing a high end restoration due to cost vs turn around after.

another odd question since this is my first. what was in the roof just above the center of the windshield. it seems like the likely spot for a radio antenna ( based off my 48 buick I picked up) but the guy was under the impression it was a spot for a light of sorts. any idea?

Most likely an antenna similar to your Buicks. The 47 Customs had either a roof antenna and turning a knob inside above the mirror would park or place it into position plus extend or retract it or you could get a vacuum operated fender antenna.

just wondering.....did those cars come from SC. We sold off the rough collection my dad had about 4 years ago and two 47 clippers (matched set) were sold together. Could be a bunch of them were sold as such, just wondered what had become of the lot. Two 55 400's red and white, three or four 52's, two 51 patricians, some 53 and 54 clippers. I think that is correct from memory.

Voorheis for including both cars in the Packard Owner's Registry.

1 -'47 Custom Super Clipper Eight Touring Sedan

2 -'47 Custom Super Clipper Eight Touring Sedan

Pictures to enhance the entries would be awesome!
