Re: Packard 356 Engine/block needed

I would be interested in it. Do you know whether it had any issues causing it's removal? We need a good block. Where is it located and would you be willing to either crate it or attach it to a pallet for shipping? Price? We are in Oklahoma, alternatively I guess you probably have crating services in your area who would do it. Obviously crating/shipping my responsibility.

Thanks.

Well, I can only recommend that you keep shopping. If nothing else, walk the swap meets in your area and you're bound to find someone selling correctly restored plates of the desired year. If the vendor doesn't restore them himself, chances are he knows someone who does.

You used to see more than one vendor like that set up at Fall Hershey, but I haven't been there in nearly five years. I would think that the growing popularity of YOM plates for registration of antiques would have breathed some life into what might otherwise be a dying art.

The first photo looks kinda light, but we know from past experience, here, that is sometimes just a matter of the the camera and lighting. The color in the second pic looks closer.

Are the valve covers still in primer? IIRC, they were originally painted silver (perhaps "Argent Silver", which was used as a trim accent color on GM cars in later years), with red lettering (about the same color as the red in the hex on the wheel covers).

Anyone else have an opinion as to color match?

Models with electric wipers used a single action (no vacuum section) fuel pump.

I have a complete 1940 engine C xxxxxx C. If you are interested I will get the correct number from it. It is not rebuilt, but complete and turns free by hand. It would NOT be expensive.

Re: 1939 Rollson Packard 1701

Van:

If I am following this thread properly, it appears that you reference a Rollson made for opera singer Lily Pons as a 1939 Packard/Rollson. I have a reference to the Lily Pons car as having been a 1941. This quote "One of the Panel Broughams was built for opera singer Lily Pons on a 1941 Packard 160 chassis, and a special high-roofed five-passenger sedan body was fitted on a Super Eight chassis for either an elderly or handicapped customer." is taken from (6th paragraph from the bottom) what appears to be a rather authoratative article regarding Rollson located at:http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/r/rollson/rollson.htm

I just contracted to purchase what I believe to be the 1941 "high-roofed five passenger sedan" yesterday, and have added a photo and some information on this car to the registry.

I suppose it is possible, but not likely due to the rarity of the Rollson, that Lily Pons may have owned both a 1939 and a 1941?

If I were trying to locate a particular Packard, I would contact the roster keeper for that car at:http://www.packardclub.org/

Good luck in your search

Great to see the progress you've made. And like Eric, I applaud your "enginuity".

No work on '41 but did go to Lee Bros, specialist fastener supplier, and picked up some nut/bolts/washers required for the Coupe. Also picked up 2 castellated nuts/spring and flat washers for Wade for his '34, these are for the bottom radiator mounts. The radiator needs to be fitted, connected and filled before the engine is fired up. However wasn't able to pick up manifold studs for the '41 to replace the 2 broken and 3 which screwed out when the manifold was removed. Apparently the old guy who made them has retired and they don't have an alternate source of supply, so the search will continue.

And Dave,

Checked my 1935-1941 Parts Listing and the only insulator listed seems to be for 1939 Packards, see Pic.

This brings me to reference material. I have a 52 Hollander, the 1935-1941 Packard Parts Listing and a 1935-1952 MOTOR'S Auto Repair Manual. The Hollander lists a number of years with the same pump. The Parts Listing shows the Packard Part # 348092 for model 1901 and this is without a vacuum pump! And on another page refers to "Detail parts for AC Fuel Pumps - Type.....1537067(my emphasis). And the MOTOR'S identifies the Fuel Pump by Mfgr's number which is stamped on the pump and mine is 7067. MOTOR'S identify 7067* as referring to 1940-47 Eight and for 1941 the number is 7416*. The asterisk denotes "Combination Fuel and Vacuum Pump"! Additionally Wade also has a MOTOR'S at the workshop and when I referred to it a few days ago it had another reference "AH" to the pump for the 1901. I'll check that tomorrow at the workshop. What I am saying here is that there is some confusion, well on my part at least, in trying to fit what at times seems to be conflicting information together. Have included pic's from the 3 manuals for reference.
