Had another oddity while working on the '27's rear brakes. The hubs were put on so tight by the previous mechanic, that it took a cheater bar on my 3 fingered hub puller, a generous heating with the torch, and a few sharp blows of the hammer to remove them. In doing so it ruined 3 wheel studs on each hub and the paint.

After they cooled, I checked the runout on the hub faces, and were surprisingly good; only .005" out. But the studs are trash. Since most Packard parts sellers aren't open @ 9 pm and the only parts catalog I have didn't list them, I made 6 studs last night (3 left hand, and 3 right hand) to get it rolling on Mon.

Does any body make these?

Also I was thinking about making a hub puller that screws on to the threads for hub caps, that way it wouldn't ruin the studs. Ever here of one thats already made? I made one for an early 20's Buick a few years back, and it worked great.

I had an extra made when I needed to pull the hubs on my 30. However, it might be a different size. What is the diameter of the hub threads? If it fits, I would be happy to send it to you.

The threads measure 2.805 diameter and 16 threads per inch. I am assuming it's a 2-13/16"-16 thread. Yours looks like what I had in mind. How did you keep the wheel from turning? Will the parking prake hold it? How much for your extra puller? E-mail or PM me, I'll get back to as soon as I can. (Sounds like my answering machine!!)

You should check with Jim Balfour for the hub puller. I know he made some up a number of years ago.
