Hi

any advice on how to find part number for advance unit, number would work to.

did you check Max or Kanter?

Ken, almost certainly you're going to have to go for a rebuild vacuum advance, as just suggested Max and Kanters are the obvious places to go. Even if you found an NOS or NORS unit, chances are it would have a very short service life as all these years in storage almost certainly would have resulted in some deterioration of the rubber diaphragm.

For a Delco distributor the original number for the vacuum control is 1116070.
Only used for 1953-54 Packards with the 327 engine, so not likely to be found new or as a replacement.

Here are some Blue Streak numbers given for 53 years from a spread sheet several years ago

53-54 1110836 dist vc130 vac adv
53-54 1110841 vc130
53 Igp dist vc116

Not sure of accuracy-I got my vac adv from Max for 47 Clipper. Terrill Mach will rebuilt your unit

I may have an NOS advance available, but they are higher priced than rebuilds and as mentioned, the life may be shortened because of the dried out diaphragm. Although to be honest, I've sold a lot of NOS vacuum advances and had very little problems. If it was my car, I'd rebuild my original advance which is another service I can offer you. The cost would be $75 plus shipping back to you. Let me know of I can help you in any way.

Anybody find a source for a Delco Remy 1116070 Vacuum Advance, or is getting one rebuilt still the best/only option? Looking for my 53 Cavalier. I checked with Terrill Machine in Texas and they will rebuild it for $100, plus shipping. Makes it an expensive little part for me up in Canada. :-/

Right now I have a VC 830 that the base is slightly modified to allow the cap to fit on the distributor. Works for now, but not a great long term solution.

One thing I am curious about is the timing curve. In some years Packard used different springs or shims with the vacuum canister to modify or fine tune the curve. Just wondering how that approach translates to new units meant for another make or distributor or even rebuilt original units or was it ever that important.
