2301 generator

How would one tell which make of generator is on the car? I assumed it would be an Autolite because the distributor is. There is no tag on the generator, other than the rebuilders sticker. They were kind enough to remove it(I'm assuming) so it would likely need to go back to them. I need to determine which one as I need new springs for the brush arms. The two numbers that I have been able to find are Autolite - GGW-6001E and Delco 1102715. The car has overdrive and fog lights, so am I correct in thinking it would likely be a 45 amp generator. Thanks to who post.

If it won't move, get a bigger wrench.
If it breaks, it needed fixing anyway.

I could probably tell you by sight, but wouldn't be able to tell you by words. If the regulator is still Autolite then the genny probably still is. But at the age of these cars, anything is possible.

Here are two photos of the Auto Lite generator on my 21st Series Custom Clipper. The crackle paint finish is not original. Note that the pulley and fan are cast as one piece. I believe the Delcos have separate pieces. I hope this helps.

Sorry, cannot identify it from your photo. What numbers does the rebuilder's tag have on it?

AutoLite GGW 6001E was specific to the 22nd series 6-cylinder taxicab and was a 45 amp unit. The only 23rd series to have AutoLite generators (GGW 6001 X, 40 amp) were the Custom 8s and the Super Deluxe Victoria (2332) with the C, D, and F versions. Your 2301 should have originally had a Delco 1102717. Some may say that factory shortages might have resulted in some interchanges at the factory and one can't rule that out, though I think it's unlikely if it's not mentioned in the service bulletins. Ditto for the distributor, your 2301 should have a Delco distributor and the fact that it doesn't shows some mongrelization took place at some point. That said, no reason why the vehicle can't perform fine with the interchanges though you should compare the distributor advance curves to see how closely they match.

The car is a Deluxe 8 Touring Sedan with the 288. Hmmm...Nasty previous mechanic struck again. I Guess I'll remove it and take it to an automotive electrical shop to see if they can identify it. As far as numbers on the tag...the name is Crescent Automotive Products, Montreal, Canada, numbers are GJC 7002. Now I just did a quick search before finishing this post and what I am finding some named it as an Autolite, others a Prestolite. More puzzles....yea! Thanks again.

The number would tell me it is an Auto Lite. I think the name "Prestolite" was revived after your car was built, and used on Ford products in the 1970s, maybe?

That is definitely an Autolite generator in the picture. The GJC 7002 is not a Packard application generator, but shouldn't be an issue unless your going for original. Just don't order parts based on application. Also, the GJC 7002 is a 12 volt generator. What parts are you needing? I should be able to help you.

Autolite did become Prestolite.

My 23rd Series Deluxe 8 has an Autolite generator, reguloator, starter, and distributer. I think it was original equipment.
