Caribbean Engine

Hello, new to the forum so hope this is in the proper section.
I recently bought a Caribbean engine and trans unfortunately(to late to save the rest)
I live in the North of Scotland so information is not readily available and any help would be appreciated.
My questions are ...were these engines used in any other cars, and are parts still available to re build.

to PackardInfo. Looks like you've got the start of the makings of a Packard, unfortunately you've chosen one of the rarer and more desirable models so sourcing the rest of a Caribbean could be a mite difficult.

Other than the 2x4bbl intake, the '55 Caribbean engine was identical to most all the 352" engines used in '55-56 Packard, '56 Hudson, '56 Nash and the '56 Studebaker Golden Hawk.

The Caribbean 2x4bbl intake manifold and carburetors are worth more than the rest of the engine and transmission. If you have the carburetors, intake manifold, linkage, fuel lines and air cleaners in good condition you might be able to sell that for as much as $2500.

Thanks for the help,unfortunately no carbs just the twin intake manifold,I will have give some thought if it is worth re-building the engine.

The good news is the intake is worth more than the core engine. The bad news is the carbs, linkage, lines and air cleaner cost about $1500 to put right if you intend to use on a restored car.

What plans have you for the engine? FWIW, here in the US it costs about $3000 to rebuild one correctly.

A couple of years ago, I shipped a rebuilt '56 352" 275hp to a Brit who was restoring a '56 Golden Hawk.

just out of curiosity, how did this end up in elgin, was it part of a whole car there or did you just get the engine shipped to you, a caribbean in Scotland must have been rare.

Hello,you are right a Caribbean in the North of Scotland,strange.
I got the engine and trans from a breaker who had seen my add for old American car wanted.
He had acquired the car from a lady in Banff who had split from her husband (must be a lesson there)the car had lain in the garage for a number of years.
The car was broken before I could see it ,makes you wonder.

Mike Dulinski just picked up his 93rd and 94th 1955-1956 Packard. He disassembles them and sells the parts. Quite a few are Caribbeans. He is a pleasure to deal with and is very fair. I have bought many items from him.
