The only thing I am aware of is primer or paint on the floor. The mat is very thin maybe slightly over 1/16th to maybe 1/8 thick. The bottom is sort of like a felt or flannel. The sides had just raw metal with some type of sound deadening and overspray & was covered with cardboard that matched the mat. Back of seat also had cardboard.

Ah, good. I remember some of that sound deadening stuff. Was it spray-on or fluffy-stuff?
Anyone have pics of a bare fabric-and-cardboard-free trunk?

On my 56 convertible, the floor pan and spare tire well is simply painted upper body color and the inner fenders and wheel wells are coated with a sound-deadening coating (not the flocking found pre 1951) painted over in upper body color. The trunk lining is a mixture of burtex on the floor, the gas filler housing, and the fender wells. The balance is cardboard with the same houndstooth pattern.

A 'tar-paper' like material served as an underlayment for the material inside the trunk of my '55 parts Patrician.
BTW, I was in the trunk this past weekend removing pieces to serve as templates and I learned first hand, that a 1955 400's trunk size is actually larger than that of a 1955 Patrician.

Hank, I know how busy you are, and I only want an answer if it's convenient to you, but do you have an approximate page where I can see the trunk view. My old putt-putt computer takes a long time to load each page of photos...
Thanks, but no hurry. I won't be peering into a trunk for a few more weeks yet.
