What would you pay for this car. How would you evaluate the celebrity connections?

Any time they start out with a commemorative flag before a posting, I'd be wary. It looks like a carnival barker's dream, and the fake bullet holes don't help any.

If someone wanted to make a nice, driveable Packard out of it without all the whoop-de-do mob connections, I'd say that would be a classy way to go. Pay what the car is worth. Capone was worthless.

Unless there is a bill of sale with Capones signature on it and a legitimate certification that the document and signature is real, then it is nothing but a wonderful fairytale. As such, the car should be valued on it's own merits and not who may have owned it.

Yep, the fake, stick-on bullet holes tell you all you need to know. You can buy two sheets full of them for a few bucks. Not the way to sell a Packard, and I agree with the other posters 100%, value the car on its own merits only.

I think the car should be steeply discounted for the Capone connection. I really dislike gangsters and anything that is associated with them, especially their automobiles.

Personally, I thought the site (Haggle me) said it all.

Are there really suckers for this stuff?

patgreen,

The existence of the site would answer that question, I suppose. But then, the site itself might be just so much smoke.

I agree wholeheartedly with JW, this is not something to celebrate, but in the interest of history, if it is the genuine car, it would be worthy of some consideration for an appropriate museum. That's another indication that it's not a verifiable piece of automotive history. If all the documentation was there, they would be peddling it to museum curators, not the general public.

Also remember that Al Capone was in jail from 1932 to 1939.

Sounds pretty fishy given Capone went to prison in 1932.

I agree with JW.

What really gets me is when they put those stupid bullet hole stickers on upside down- with the shadow on the bottom!
