Kev,
Replicated Gerd's search with the same error message appearing. It occurred when the search was initiated from being in a PackardInfo members profile. Doesn't occur when accessing the search function from a regular window. Looks to me that accessing a members profile puts you in a situation that is outside the search functions access capabilities. This from a technological Luddite, so probably wrong!

Yes, that would do it. The problem is that by default it tries to do a search on the current "Area" of the website you are in. So in the forums, it searches the Forum, Photos, it searches the photos by default. You cannot search profiles in that manner, hence the error.
Probably been there since day 1.
