A Packard Spotted at Bonneville Speed Week

My brother was in Bonneville, UT as part of a team trying to up the world record they set last year with a 1969 Triumph running in the 750 cc class and he spotted this rat-rod with a Packard motor in it. The engine is from a 1949, has 4 carbs and is supercharged.

So he has to talk with the owner. The guy was just observing Speed Week and did not have any intention of running it on the salt.

OK, I know it is a rat-rod, but at least the guy came close on the color of the block.

Discuss.

I don't think that exhaust is going to work right, but I guess he likes the look.

I saw a street rod running around with a genuine 32-36 "flying lady" on it. I didn't bother talking to the guy because I assumed he loved the look of the thing.

I wonder what that thing would turn out on a dyno. If the Duesy added 55 hp with four valves per cylinder, a hemi head, and supercharging, I'll rekon 50 hp. If the flow potential is not there power can actually fall due to a piling up of pressure.

If it's blows up it'll make for a good noise.

This car has been the subject of a number of threads on PackardInfo over the past few years. But probably the most appropriate would be that started by the owner - Blown Packard inline 8.
