Tootsietoy cars were just that - toys. They were of a fairly simple design - never intended to have the level of detail found on modern collectibles. I consider them to be something of a precursor to Matchbox cars - though much larger in scale.
The draft required to release the one piece body shell from its mold would likely account for the reverse slope of the front and rear end. I can't speak to their interpretation of molding/feature lines along the flanks, however. While you may find examples of this particular model listed as 1956, I believe that is merely the toy's year of issue - NOT the subject vehicle's model year. Aside from a bit of artistic license, the front and rear styling elements are clearly based on a 55th Series Senior car. Since its executed as a foor-door sedan, it can only be a 1955 Patrician, then. The trailer hitch detail is a proprietary thing - meant to accomodate die cast trailers that the same toymaker also produced. I've seen some of these Patricians paired up with an (orange) U-haul open trailer or a boat on a trailer. However, as I'm not a really collector of such things, I can't say whether they were originally shipped/sold together.

Pat,
I know you're proud of your Tootsietoy Packard but as BH said "Tootsietoy cars were just that - toys" and as toys are NOT acceptable for inclusion in the Packard Owner's Registry, irrespective of the inventive humour used in describing it. Accordingly I have deleted the entry you created for your Tootsietoy Packard. Sorry

Tootsietoy Packards are actually quite collectible . . . Unrestored, beat-up specimens are available for less than ten bucks, while mint-in-box sets including the trailer BH mentioned (as pictured below) can reach $100 or more . . . even if the box does feature a Cadillac in the artwork! I agree that the most likely subject is a 1955 Patrician. These toys were actually considered quite realistic for their time, and I have a couple in my own collection. The ones that owners have "restored" in more authentic and/or more detailed paint jobs aren't worth any more, and in most cases less. My advice is to leave it as is, unless you just want a nicer-looking conversation piece and you're not worried about value.

Trouble is Pat, as an avowed Packard Owner's Registry tragic, ie one who is consumed by this feature on PackardInfo, I monitor it closely. That, coupled with the time difference between the US and Australia, meant I caught it rather quickly.

. . . . and many of us are just kids trapped in somewhat older bodies, looking for toys in any shape or form.

Agree. I'm collecting scale model cars for nearly 40 years now. Seems, I'm not very successful in being a good boy, too...
Among the ca. 50 Packards is a similar green Tootsie. Did you realize that Packard released some pre-production pictures of '55 Patricians that are lacking the bright side trim panels? IRC, such a car participated at the annual Mobile Gas economy run. Perhaps, Tootsie had that in mind when doing the mold of their toy...
