Help Me Identify This Edmunds Cylinder Head

My boss bought this cylinder head for a Packard project car, but realized it was not for the right application. Stud count is different, and spark plug location is different. The spark plugs are evenly spaced, instead of grouped in 2's, and it takes 38 studs/bolts. I'm attaching a couple of pictures of it. Since he can't use it, he wants to sell it, so we're basically hunting information for when we list it. Any help is appreciated.

From other research I've done online, the only match I've found is a 1953 Packard 359 engine. Does that mean it would ONLY fit a 359 or was there some level of parts interchange between the various engines such as the 327, 356, etc? Any help is appreciated. This cylinder head has never been bolted to a car, and there are no flaws. We even have the original box from Edmunds. We also have a two-carb aluminum intake manifold.

The "359" engine was a 1954-only engine, not available in 1953. But no matter; from a fit point-of-view the 359 and 327 heads interchange.

Most Packard heads will interchange 40-54 and had 38 bolts. At quick glance, smaller 8 series had 29 bolts but mostly prewar use.

The 29 stud head was used on the small 8 1935-1947 with 3 1/4" bore, often referred to as the "120". There were three other series 38 stud engines. The 24-36 Super/Deluxe eight of 384Cu in and the 29-36 320 cu in Eight and 37-39 Super Eight /Super 8.

The head pictured will fit on the 40-50 Super/Custom 8 356, 48-54 288, 327 with 3 1/2" bore and '54 359 3 9/16" bore. The compression ratio will differ on these engines, I'm not sure if it will be too high on the larger engines and they may knock.

Fred (and others), thank you very much for the information. That is exactly what I needed to know to accurately list the cylinder head for sale.

Please let us know at Packardinfo when you want to sell and the price. With the Canadian dollar at $1.03 US I am in a buying mood.

This is unbelieveable. What are the chances of 2 NOS Edmunds Packard heads turning up at opposite ends of the country at the same time?

See this thread already linked by Guscha

Maybe my estimate of $1000 and up is too high, if there are so many around.

....................................

Later: Funny thought, what if this bird's boss bought the head from the guy in Vernon Ct? Too funny if he did.
