I received an email from Starbucks about the grand opening of their new flagship store, which will be the home of their premium Starbucks Reserve label.

Since I enjoy coffee, I was interested enough to click on the link to see a video of the idea behind the new Roastery, and to take a virtual tour of the building.

Something about the architecture said "former auto dealership" to me, so I Googled the address along with the word "dealership," and BINGO! Up popped this website from the City of Seattle. The Starbucks Roastery is occupying the former Packard Seattle dealership!

The number of former Packard factory branches and dealership buildings that have gone on to subsequent successful lives is impressive. Perhaps a more interesting observation is how many are still involved in the automotive sales business - the one that comes to mind is the huge Packard facility on 11th Avenue in NYC. I haven't been past it recently but as of just a few years ago it was a corporate Ford facility. Anyone know of others still serving the auto business?

Some marketing folks at StarBucks contacted me a few weeks ago looking for Hi-Rez Images or negatives of the Seattle Packard location. I guess they want to use an image of the dealership on the wall inside the location. I guess the only decent pics they could find of the location are the ones we have here in the Photo Archive/Dealer Section.
