I have a 1940 Packard that I am installing the transmission. I need help as to how to remove the fork that moves the throw out bearing.

Hi Rick--you are just up the street from me in Parkton MD. Which model are you working on--the cars with the 356 are quite different from the 110 and 120?

Also, what is your reason to take the fork out?

I think the fork needs to come out so I can attach the small spring that connects to the throw out bearing and the housing of the transmission. I don't know a way that I can place the bearing on one side of the fork and attach the spring to the housing on the other side

The fork will not come out without removing the clutch and pressure plate. That sied put the spring on the throw out bearing before you put in the trans. After the trans is in hook the spring up with a long pair of neddle nose pliers.
