After donating blood plasma, and seeing what was for me a strange looking motorcycle on the way back this morning, it was off to the workshop. Wade was engaged in re-assembling the '34's grill so I left him to that while I gave the top of the fuel tank a coat of POR-15. Then helped Wade with the final assembly of the radiator shutters, it's definitely a two man job to get it all together. Also cleaned up and POR'd the '34's headlight bar. And Wade's taking home Big Red's fuel tank sending unit tonight to clean it up and get it working.

Wade told me the reason for his rushed Helensberg trip yesterday was to go and see the painter to confirm the lighter colour he has to put on the body. Wade confirmed it was the colour he wanted so all was well. And Gina took some pic's of the '34's body yesterday so when Wade emails me copies I'll post some here.

Last pic posted is of Big Red from the Kimes book, page 393 of my edition. Wade told me it was in there a while ago and I finally remembered today to look it up.

Looks magnificent. Excluding the Dietrich colors, I believe there were 5 gray colors in 1934, is this a match or close match for one of them? The original colors were Silver Fox Gray, Sea Shell Gray (only as a stripe color), Storm Cloud Gray, Roanoke Gray Light, and Mt. Vernon Gray. I've not seen any 1934 chip which might help me distinguish one from the other.

Keith,

Don't know much at all about Madisons. The one in the workshop is stored for the owner by John who also maintains it for him. I've posted pic's of this car before as well as a couple of others I've run across over the last two years. Here's the link to some more pic's and a link to a Picasa album from last years Sydney Motor show which had a Bufori on display

First Wade made a new gasket for the fuel pick-up/sending unit and re-installed the unit, which he'd re-built over the week-end, into the tank top. We didn't re-install the tank because Wade wants as much room as possible for re-installing the new rear shackle bolts once they are made by Ivan. And speaking of Ivan, he's machining "interference fit" pins for the new cam rollers as well as machining each of the rocker arms to suit. Once these arrive I'll update in more detail along with pic's.

Next the right front brake was re-assembled, the new cups installed in the hub, new seal installed, new bearings packed and the brake drum re-installed. And during this process Wade used Loctite 777 anti-sieze lubricant on the brake adjusting mechanism. Apparently Harvey swears by it so Wade's putting it to the test. Turned then to the left side for the same procedure but a problem with the new seal means although the brakes shoes and hardware is now installed the drum and hub are yet to be fitted.

And tomorrow I'm taking the '41 down to the workshop to make and mount a new left front blinker bracket for Sunday's run to the Australian Motorlife Museum on the south coast.

Dropped into the workshop to find Wade changing the oil on Old Blue. While it was up on the hoist the undercarriage was checked and an elusive noise was tried to be identified but couldn't be tracked down. Also changed the oil filter which is a modern spin on filter mounted on the right front of the engine, see pic. Turning to Big Red, saw Wade had been busy re-installing the fuel tank, diff housing, tailshaft and re-connecting the rear shocks. Says he was able to do all that because the hold up to doing this sooner was waiting for the new shackle bolts from Ivan. Left Wade to it but I'll be back tomorrow afternoon after seeing the granddaughters in the morning.

Mal, could you tell us more about the modern spin on oil filter? It looks like there is a housing attached to the frame. Is this a remotely located full flow type filter? I enjoy spending time with you and Wade in the workshop. Also, the photos of the museum tour looks like you are having comfortable winter weather. Must be something like Southern California. Thanks - John

G'day Mal,
The 34 is coming along fine. What type of grey has she been painted in? i.e. actual colour name not cellulose or two pack.
A friend of mine likes it and would like to paint his Buick the same colour.
Thanks
Terry

Yes, I'm also interested in a description of the gray color, I had asked that back in post 147 but hadn't seen an answer yet.
