Gerd,
Thanks for taking up the running with the owner, although in one regard it didn't help number clarification much! One of the reasons I posted the pic's was because of the Leonard Williams tag, I hadn't seen one before.

Gusha, Leonard Williams was Packard's exclusive dealer in England for many years, from well before WW II up to and including 1956. Not sure aboug 1957-58. Doesn't help clarify the question with regard to the patent plate and VN, unfortunately. Yes Dave, while waiting for another message from the owner to perhaps clarify the riddle that revolves around the patent plate and VN I try to use the meantime to spotlight that the offered Packard isn't the only known RHD Packard that was built in Detroit and not in Canada. Our member snopack mentioned there on forums.aaca.org in April 2006: "I have a 1935, 1200 Touring Sedan that is right hand drive. It was sold in London by Leonard Williams Sons. It came back to the U.S.A. in 1969 and currently has 34,300 miles. The main differences that I know of besides steering, pedals, handbrake, are the main wire harness for lighting control off the bottom of steering column and the exhaust manifold outlet sweeps forward to give clearance for the lighting control switch at the bottom of the steering column. It is 6 volt positive earth. Also it was built in Detriot not Windsor Canada. John" My read is, that you know John (snopack).

Hi Dave, Gerd and Mal.
I've been trying to do some research into Leonard Williams from their inception into Packard's until their demise. Did they still import into the UK after the war? I have had no luck thus far with any search engines. I would like to gather some info as people ask me at car shows when we imported Packard's into the UK. Thanks T

Hi Terry. Yes, Leonard Williams was still Packard's British agent as late as 1956. If you can get your hands on a copy of THE MOTOR of June 27, 1956 you can read the road test report of a 1956 Clipper imported and converted to RHD by Leonard Williams. It's MOTOR's road test #16/56 and I have a copy if you're interested. Their facilities were completely destroyed (including apparently all or most of their records) during the war and postwar they relocated to Great West Road, Middlesex.

Many thanks Don. Those two bring me to just a few shy of 3200 sets of data.

O_D,
The photo below is from this eBay listing for a VN plate. Reason I'm posting it is because the letters/numbers look to be embossed rather than stamped on the plate. I hadn't noticed that before, so is this normal or is it unusual?

Mal, thanks for sending that photo and asking the question. The more closely I enlarge and examine the image, the more I think it's an optical illusion and the numbers are stamped. I'm curious what the perception of others is.
