Hydraulic.

Prewar windows were hydraulic but did have suction involved.

Prewar pumps ran both directions. Running one direction supplied pressure to raise the window. A solenoid valve kept the window in position. To lower, the valve was opened and pump was reversed to provide a suction action to pull the fluid back to the reservoir. In addition to that suction there was a spring at each window to assist the emptying.

Postwars were simplified and had pumps running in a single direction only. Pressure was used to raise he window. When lowering, pump stayed off and the solenoid valve opened. A heavy spring exerted pressure at the cylinder to force the fluid back to the reservoir.
