The rear window is hinged at the top and can be opened a few inches for increased ventilation. It was operated by a Trico vacuum motor with a switch located on the dash.
In an earlier thread there are several posts with photos showing the arrangement

Hi
The rubber gasket was unusually thick and spongy, so the glass would seal against it. As they aged in service, leak problems appeared. I ran across two taxi-spec'd Clipper Sixes in junkyards years ago, both had a heavy application of roof tar around the window in an effort to seal it. Although the Clipper taxi was intended for only that market, some dealers ordered them for private sales. The appeal of the durable vinyl interior, framed windows, tougher taxi-spec'd chassis, even the ventilating rear window wasn't lost on some customers. Set up with overdrive and properly maintained, bet one could drive one for decades. Steve

Sorry folks, but I just can't help myself!
That 1948 "Super" 8 is too weird to be true. I have seen the specs for the '48 Super and I am willing to bet the pink slip of my Clipper that Packard did not offer an "inline V-8"! How do you get a straight line from a "V" configuration? I could be wrong about this, but I believe that a car company named Chevrolet introduced the 454 cid engine in 1970 for its Corvettes. Looking it up online (not inline!) I see that the Super 8 came with a 327 cid straight 8 with one Carter 2-barrel carburetor. This seller mentions that the carbs (plural) need to be rebuilt. I think there may be something squirrelly about this car ...

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...

G'day John,
There was another one recently on Gumtree, it just dropped off, for a lot less(AU$16,500). Usually I link them to our(PACA) Website like I have for the one above but missed doing the Gumtree one.

Look what the empire state has to offer today.
Here are some 36 120 parts (bumpers, wheels, hubcaps) but also a luggage rack which has the "packard eight" emblem and a trunk. I can't tell if it is a junior or senior luggage rack. buffalo.craigslist.org/pts/5707631713.html buffalo.craigslist.org/pts/5707615144.html @Steve, are you cleaning your backyard? rochester.craigslist.org/pts/5669457141.html Also a nice "shovel nose" sedan: buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/5708137118.html And a very reasonable priced 41 180 buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/5676618493.html

Hi BDC
Yes, that '57 Clipper rear clip was shipped up from Texas 30 years ago for an aborted project. If anyone has use for it, bring your trailer and take it away.
