Without beating a dead horse..........regarding the "flip out" vent windows, I 've been reading the James Hollinsworth book and I found something of interest that somewhat differs from the previous posts.

On page 67, he states" Note also that the One-Ten and One Twenty cars used the "flip-out" front vent window mechanism, as did the early One-Sixty convertibles....."

This is also repeated on page 101, referring to the mid year (January) changes.

Has something been discovered to prove this to be false since the book was published?

I see you've done some good research there. I'll give you a suggestion. PM JoeSantana, he owns a model 1377 with a production number of 2011 and yours is 2062. Ask him if he has flip-out vent windows or crank-out windows. Joe's is an earlier number and could provide some clues.

Jim is (was) the expert for 1940s and it would be good to determine where the cut-off was for early production for convertibles with flip-outs. BTW, did Jim cite convertible coupes or sedans or both?

Alternatively, you could contact the PAC roster keeper found on their website www.packardclub.org

We could all learn something here.

To confirm what is in Jim's book,check the 1935-1941 Packard Parts Book Gr.30.401. This section gives the part numbers for the friction type vent windows,(same as 110&120)used on all early 160 conv. sedans (1377) and conv. coupe (1379). The car in question also has the correct door panel design that was used on all early cars. I have info. on 22 cars the highest # 1377-2173.............

Just a note on the following 1940 hardware: All interior window cranks, door handles, escutcheons,outside door handles,dash knobs shift knob, etc. are the same for all 110-120 and all 160's on the 127" wheelbase.

If thats the case, it makes it a lot harder to recognize a fake senior car. Are there other little giveaways to recognize a fake?

While I'm browsing through the 1940 120&160 line up I see that there's a picture of a 1934 (700) Packard on the spot where the 1940 One-Twenty Darrin Victoria Convertible is supposed to be. Maybe BigKev can correct that between keeping the site up & wrapping Xmas presents.

Mr. Darrin180 has delivered the news that Stevep516 wanted to hear: he is probably looking at an early senior car. Remember the casting date on the engine was August 1939.

Shown below is a page from the Parts Book and it shows two vent windows to fit the senior convertibles - sedan-1377 and coupes 1379.

Wow. Roger is right. This is "news" to those of us who thought we knew these cars. As Roger said, it will make it tougher to spot the fakes. That makes it even more important to have the original serial number plate with convertibles, and the original engine, too, for that matter.

Congratulations to Steve for nabbing a real car. If an apology is due from me, I will full-heartedly give it.
