On the photo in the first page of this thread there was a bit of discussion about the transmission at the center which I have just identified by chance! It is 1951-1954 senior Henney-Packard including the commercial vehicles and the long wheelbase passenger cars. They had the the Mechanics-type flange that included an adapter to the Spicer u-joint. I am not sure why they didn’t use a Spicer to Spicer u-joint but I guess they wanted them to all be the same which, according to the parts book, they are.

Ok,
Found another transmission, similar to theses others,
BUT this one is different.
Prewar?, EDIT - NOPE!
What year/years does this one fit?

Now I see why some of the levers are curved, they needed to clear the transmission mounts.

EDIT,
Should have read this thread 1st!
A lot of knowledgeable people help,
BUT, only if you read!!
This is a 22nd and 23rd series transmission.

One of your pic's has R11 cast into it. Wasn't an R11 a post WW2 transmission?

And if you have access to the transmission you might also measure the input shaft diameter. It is identified as an R11-1B and since it has the extra -1B designation it may be a transmission for the 356 and have the larger diameter input shaft only used on that engine.

It has been reported that Packard did switch to the same shaft for all at some time during the R11 use but that might have been after the 356 was discontinued.

Pilot bearing surface at shaft end for 356 use should be near 3/4" with about a 1 1/8" spline part while the smaller engines have a pilot of about 1/2" and splines just over 7/8".

Borrowing a portion of L.T.R.D.'s photo, there is a good side by side comparison shot of transmission input shaft differences anyone looking for another trans to upgrade to overdrive might find useful.

The input shaft for the so called junior transmission used on all non senior engines is smaller than the shaft used for the 356. The larger diameter 356 shaft and transmission only fits that large engine. The clutch assy needed for the 356 trans is also larger as is the throwout bearing and sleeve assy.

If it has an R9 overdrive, the version used with the 356 trans is heavier duty with 4 pinion gears at the output whereas junior R9 overdrives have 3 pinion gears. If it has the R11 overdrive, the entire OD is simpler both electrically and mechanically and is of sturdier construction. It uses 3 pinion gears on both versions.
