this spare head was not meant to be. I tapped about 3 holes just fine before the holes just started crumbling. almost like the metal was made of saltine crackers. weirdest thing I have ever experienced. needless to say, no 14mm spark plug will stay in the hole. its worthless. Devine intervention I say. I went slow and took my time, but red flags have been all over this head from the beginning.

I really need to get to updating about the concours, but I have been very busy with David's 37 convertible sedan. I believe I have it running pretty good compared to what it was. replaced the carb with a WDO (same place that rebuilt mine and it had the same issues on it that I had to correct) checked compression, 95 on all cylinders. cleaned spark plugs and gapped them correctly. 3 of them were to much. adjust timing and setup carb. been driving it around and I can say 2 things, its a dream boat and i'm WAY too tall to drive a 37 convertible. people apparently were not 6'4" back then. I have to squish down otherwise I see the wooden bow in my face at the top of the windshield.

anyways. there is your update.

here are a few pics of the car I'm working on. I drove it to work and had some of the Sono Techs come take a look. they couldn't resist a photo op. chicks and Packards...great combo!

on the way home, I had a photo op as well.

Your cryptic reference of "the parts counter manager's car" obviously served it's purpose, I didn't crack the code!

"working on getting it running better. so far so good"

You've obviously impressed DAF for him to put his car in your highly capable hands.

BDC - The following will answer your question.

JWL sent me some pic's of it at the Salado meet a few years ago with the comment "Here are photos. Do with them what you will"

And also said "I was able to get a couple photos of David and his newly completed 120C Convertible Sedan. It is a beautiful Packard. He was beaming with pride. He drove into the parking lot on Saturday morning with some wheel covers missing. Friends who had helped with the project autographed the inside of the covers and applied them to the beautifully painted artillery style wheels. Something about a car project is not complete until the the wheel covers are installed, the last thing one does."

Certainly "beaming with pride". Looks like the cat that swallowed the canary!

Yes, 1937 1097. beautiful car! very nice color scheme and very photogenic.

Look its even the rare instance that DAF allowed himself to be photographed! The parts counter manger himself!

I'm trying my hardest to treat the car like a princess. I have blankets all over the thing when i'm working on it so I don't scratch anything!!

last night, I bent a new fuel line for it from pump to carb. cleaned up some of the wiring with shrink wrap instead of electric tape, and put a proper port plug in the intake manifold. now that I have it running pretty good, i'm just piddling and letting my OCD kick in and fixing the small stuff.

the fuel line from before was working fine, just had several kinks in it. the new line is smooth and much further away from the exhaust manifold.

(no offense to anyone else that may have worked on this car, I'm just very OCD)

anyways....I hope I do good by DAF as he deserves that 2nd place at the Concours as much as me for helping me with all those parts on my car!
