Electrical output. 10 ohms high or max pressure - 80 ohms no pressure. The same as the other gauge senders output range. A mechanical diaphragm internal to the sender controls the resistance for the output.

I made a boo boo by not asking what model car. The sender for senior cars is as described above. For Clippers it is still electrical but just a switch which is closed until oil pressure builds and then opens to extinguish the light at a set point. Different range senders are available so where it operates depends on sender specs.

For either style they normally don't go back from just sitting, and NAPA has a replacement for the junior idiot light sender, not sure of the senior sender.

No need for further inquiry on that one. I went out and checked and sure enough during the course of doing the carb I must have dislodged the wire. There is another sending unit type of thing on the back of the drivers side head, is that the temp gauge sending unit????

There is a modern replacement for the senior units and is available at Napa. Jim L has installed one in his 55 and verified it reads correctly. As O_D says there are also replacements for the Clipper switch. Depends on which you need.

The sender on the rear of head is the temp sender.
