Anymore interesting in a new 2017 Delorean?

So you can either buy a near-perfect original for ~$25,000, or a look-alike replica for possibly "less than $100,000." This has all the earmarks of a bad business plan.

I think I will pass unless they address issues raised on one of Yahoos links about the unsafest cars ever built.

That article mentioned that if the car was hit at an angle or otherwise damaged the doors would frequently cock and there was absolutely no way to open them. Apparently they also swing out a considerable distance more than regular doors and if parking is tight or someone blocks the car there is no way to open them enough to even squeeze in or out.

I guess they could always go to the Tesla contractor that built the folding doors for the new Tesla model. According to news there is probably tooling and maybe finished doors that could soon be available. The DeLorean people would just have to issue raincoats with each car to catch the hydraulic fluid leaking out of the folding mechanism.

Well, they will refurbish an existing car for $25,000 -$40,000.

Or you can buy a new one, built from scratch with NOS body parts, but it has to meet today's EPA standards. Which means a new engine. Which is probably a good thing as the engine in the original ones was a POS.

Can we build 325 Packard replicas?? What engine should we use?

Amazing, the answer to the automotive question no one ask. Or, is this just another case of "Back to the Future"?

Recalling what a flop they were new and how they turn up at every collector car auction to shrugs, it hard to imagine why anyone would want new or remanufactured one. Well, as a friend says 'There's a butt for every seat".

What's next, a Bricklin revival?

A nice original DMC sold at BJ auction yesterday for $25K. They have been hovering around $20K for years. Neat styling with gull-wing doors. More attractive now that there are new replacement parts available. Owner improvements over the years make one of them more attractive than an original car. I can see where a DMC would be a fun collector car for driving around, tours, and local shows. JMPO.
