I was wondering if anyone can post a picture of the lower half of their oil bath air cleaner used on the 2bbl carb.
Thanks John

Will the illustration in the 51 accessories catalog work (you can download and the filter is on page 17) or do you need something specific. Basically the cleaner has a clamp around the carb throat at that end and the other end uses the head to filter brace for support to keep the silencer portion horizontal. A slot on the brace goes under the wide bolt head holding the filter parts together but the brace has different bends and lengths for the various cleaners. 51-2 filters are very similar -- probably the major difference is diameter for carb throat but in 53 they added a different shape for 4 barrels and 54 also added another shape for the 359 engine.

Perhaps this will be of some help, it's from the 1951 introductory booklet to dealers.

Received an oil bath air cleaner from Mike Dulinski. A couple questions. The mounting bracket from the bottom of the oil bath bowl is missing. I was wondering where it mounted on the 288 engine block so I can fab up a new one.
Also is there an explosive view of the parts of the air cleaner? There is a bell shaped piece that was in the bottom of the oil bath housing. Was wondering where it goes??

Thanks John

Look in my project blog. You should see the pictures there. The bracket is just a thick piece of metal stock with two bends in. Should be easy to fab up.

Kev, It would appear the bracket goes to a hole along the side of the head? I could find an actual clear shot in your blog.

Here is a photo showing a side view of the head. The engine is earlier -- 22-23 series -- so the filter and bracket shape is different. Different placement for a few other things too but the hole location on the head for the bolt to mount the filter bracket should be the same as 51-4.

You can refer to Kevs and the photo of a 51-2 filter O_D posted above. When you fab the bracket there is about an inch slot on the ends of the bracket. Slot fits under the bolt and washer at the head end and between a washer like piece which may be part of the rod and the bottom of the bowl at the filter end. There are two bends in the bracket with length and angles between them that are dependent on the filter. The filter mounts level horizontally across the engine and straight out from the carb at a right angle. Once the end that bolts to the head is fixed, that level and right angle criteria is used to figure the bends and length between them. Original bracket was approx 1/8 flat steel about 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 wide. A hard to find width in most hardware stores but the standard 1/8 x 1" wide flat stock will do.

There are a few photos of a bracket in this thread so you can get an idea of what the typical 51 bracket and bends look like.https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=202934#forumpost202934
