Would someone post a photo of the front backing plate for a 120 (1939)?. I think I may be reversing mine as I reassemble.

The hole for the wheel cylinder is on top, oval adjuster access hole is at the bottom and the lip at the outer edge points outward.

Thanks Fred and Oztatman for your quick response. Just as I suspected. If there is a 50/50 chance I can get them reversed, it's a 75% chance I will.
Was there a felt gasket or seal inside of the "grease container" (the sheet metal gutter that diverts leakage to the back of the backing plate)?
Oztatman, is there a way of searching your "Wades blog" to get to one of your excellent photos of a specific subject or activity?

A way to tell orientation, backing plate has a tab with a hole in it near the rearward (secondary ) shoe as ananchor for a short spring. This spring adds extra spring force and allows the primary(front) shoe to engage first.

There is a paper gasket between the grease shield dna teh backing plate, it keeps the leaking grease from getting on to the inner backing plate and then the linings
