Now here's a real Packard rail!

For more info on the engine and the dragster see this link under the title Packard V-8 Engines.

Mal, tactical mistake! This car may impresses the bored lady but ... it is a single-seater.
Against all odds I microwaved your (admittedly) real rail to bronze it but Dave's (O_D) pic still keeps ahead to win her favor.

BTW Please send the link to Snapey.

--> When monorail came to Houston

Houston in 1956. A futuristic monorail, the Trailblazer, driven by two Packard engines and accompanied by two beautiful hostesses went on its skyrail to carry up to 55 passengers. As if the monorail wasn't high enough the driver needed a stepladder to access his roofless compartment.

--> The Wave of the Future?

"...As with so much other technology, when you look under the hood, you can be in for a disappointment. The Trailblazer used two stodgy Packard 352′s which drove transmissions connected to rubber tires which rode on top of the monorail..."

Very cool with two Caribbean engines and senior instrument panels with the speedos replaced with tachs. Can't understand why the author of the article is so dismissive and sardonic.

Well, what looked like coming from another planet sparked hopes for a new technology. Every conventional screw damped those fantasies.

But let's listen to Ricardo, an eyewitness:

"Yep...that's the Monorail I remember. The ride was so smooth and quiet...they even had 'stewardesses' on board. Such a cool idea that was never pursued..." [quotation source: www.houstorian.wordpress.com]

As far as known "our" train carried out his duties faithfully for 8 years and both locations Houston and Dallas operate a monorail down to the present day.

After more than 20 years, after a stormy and controversial start, Sydney's Monorail is coming to an end. As far as I'm aware no Packard parts were used in its construction, or soon to be destruction for that matter! It might even end up on eBay.
