before going to "the usual suspects" suggest you try local parts suppliers, parts chains or specialist clutch businesses for the clutch and pressure plates. Similarly, try local parts suppliers or specialist bearing suppliers for the pilot and throw-out bearings. Any that you find, could you please add to the Parts X-Ref?

If you can accommodate the car being apart the time down, think JW's advice is good in seeing if you can find a place to reline yours. I would think it would be less expensive as well.

If you'd rather exchange, then PI's xref mentions some Ford items will interchange but they were not specific as to which other than disc size so not much help. They also go on to specifically state that whenever possible it is best to have yours relined & didn't mince words in their reasoning why saying that substitute items were inferior.

A lot of bulletins addressed various engagement issues so if clutch feel matters to you, Packard did go to a lot of trouble in their choosing springs and dampening rates for the clutch to provide as smooth and chatter free engagement as possible.

I will look up shops here in San Antonio to see who offers that. If they have one in Austin, I should be good. As far as the rest of the items, I'm going to do my homework on those. Might get lucky and save some money!!!

The release bearing is special and you will need to go to one of the usual Packard parts suppliers for one as I doubt the usual parts stores will have one. Don't know about the pilot bearing, but think it should be generally available. A clutch job on one of these Packards is a relatively straight forward job and should not break the bank to get it done.

Not sure about the pilot bearing either. IIRC (which isn't a given), one of Fred's posts said it was an odd size 51-4 Packard exclusive & probably would be hard to find aftermarket.

Would a pressure plate like this work for my application? It is a 10" long style plate for Ford flatheads. Fixed the URL:

Garrett, if your clutch is a 10", then the pressure plate should fit. Your clutch may be a 10 1/2", but a Long style should still be available. Ross, what do you think?
