Kev,

You have inspired me to polish and paint my extinguisher. Much better looking all cleaned up.

Side project done for now. I painted the lettering based on what paint traces were left on it when I got it, and other examples I found on the internet of the same model. The ones with the red and/or green paint in the background are not correct for this particular model.

Lettering doesn't look to bad for me free styling it with a small paint brush. Two coats of clear to hopefully keep the shine for a few years. Now this distraction is over....back to the car.

Finally done with all my side projects. This time the 40s era Westinghouse Desk Fan. I derusted the fan guard, disassembled the entire until. Relubricated the motor felts, replaced the frayed head wire, and replace the modern lamp cord with a vintage looking cloth covered modern wire and a period correct plug. Fan runs great, but for the guard is more ornamental then practical.

The old equipment didn't need as many governnment inspired warning. I thnk we older citizens learned from our mistakes and payed attention when your parents told you something or even gave you a love tap to make a point stick. Or in the case of fans sticking your finger in the blades resulted in sore or bleeding fingers most people only need one application of pain to learn. Now we have the government tell us it will hurt.
Back to subject Brass looks great shinning metal like chrome is nice in my view

It amazing how the design didn't change much in 20+ years. I believe yours has the one piece plastic blade? I think that change happened mid 50s.

One thing I found interesting is that the cage gauge was formed over the blade as an assembly. So basically you can't remove the blade from the cage unless you break all the spot welds on the cage.

On the brass extinguisher, I just need to fab up a wall hanger for it, then it is going in the garage for decor.

Kev,

Where do you get the cloth covered wire and period plug at? I just bought a 40's-50's era fan and I plan on doing the same restoration.

I got the wire and the plug from SunDial Wire:

They have different styles and gauges.
