My first post here;

I have a 233 built May 1926 - very end of the production run, with what I'm told is the single piece windshield of the series 3's instead of the two part of the 2's. In most ways in decent shape.

Problem - if I open the vacuum tank valve, gas pours out of the carb. If I remove the screw on cover, I can easily push down the 'needle'. If I open the carb and check the valve assembly, it moves fairly freely. The only guess I have is that maybe some gunk is caught at the bottom where the 'needle' would normally go down to cut off gas flow into the carb.

Any thoughts on how I can check and cure this? I'm no great mechanic but this seems like it ought to be simple.

I've run into this problem before. The float needle and seat are worn out. As the needle/seat wears the sealing area increases to the point were the psi on the sealing surface is spread too wide and it leaks.

There is an outfit in Arizona called classic carburetor that may be able to make one for you.
