i did some grinding on my front patch last night...then put the water weld on to set over night. i'll come back and sand it all down smooth and to form. this stuff is mostly just to fill in all the pin holes from my crappy welding.

again probably not the correct way...but again idgac. i'm learning, and there is more then one way to skin a cat. hell you can use it on a gas tank..i'm pretty sure it will hold up on my little pin holes.

welded the bottom seam of the rocker last night. what a hard position to put myself into and not get burned. def glad that is under the car and wont be seen lol!

i put the door up there just to gauge my seam with the rocker. the door is sagging at the handle side, but when i lift up the seam is uniform. the front comes down and the back up...so its perfect.

Hank, you are getting there! It's a process. Once you get it all welded in, hit it with some semi-gloss or flat black rattle can paint to make it blend in with the black that is already on the car.

gloss black and then a swipping of steel wool over it provides the perfect replication of the patina. its gives it scratches and marks and dulls it up very nicely. this is what i did on the trunk and you can't hardly tell it wasn't original in person.

i went back and looked at your floor pans and what you did. i'm going to try to be cheap and fixe my pan on the passengers side with small pieces. with the 1500 coming up a premade panel is spensive, but i may have to just dig deep in the pocket. i would need a front and underseat to fix that passenger's side....probably over 100 or more with shipping.

since i plan to linseed it and then coat it with herculiner...i'm pretty confident my little patches will be fine. but we will see.

i alsways go back to your blog to see how you welded...you had a MUCH better welder. mine sux for this lol!

The floors were my "lets figure out how to weld" stage. My the time I got to the Dog Leg repair I got to the "competent" stage. A MIG welder does a pretty good job, I could tell the moment I ran out of welding gas, or forgot to turn on the bottle. Also clean metal really helps to reduce splatter.

You're going well Hank, I'm enjoying reading your blog and the idea of leaving the paint & patina as it was has me impressed. Glad to hear the clearcoat worked well and is hard.

I've heard about underseat heaters but never seen a photo, so have learnt something from BigKev's pics that he has posted. My car is RHD and as far as I know, no heater was fitted as standard to RHD cars, so I might check out the underseat ones and see if I can't fit one!

The heater in my car is from a 55/56 model. The only difference between that and the prior heaters is 12v vs 6v.

In operation the heaters blow back towards the rear seat passengers under the rear foot rail.

The floor should be "pre-punched" with the knock-outs for the heater. But I suppose if you mounted it on the LH side, the heater orientation would be reversed so it would blow forward and warm the front of the car.

If Larry51 still has a 6v car and is looking for a floor heater that blows in both directions, possibly a 42-47 heater would fit. It was mounted on the drivers side in 47 and the motor and tubes are configured slightly differently than the 51 unit, but maybe a mount in the regular 51 spot is possible.

If a used one isn't available in Australia, in group 33.000 Kanter advertises NOS 42-47 underseat heaters for $129kanter.com/packard/pac-450.html They are still listed in his latest printed 40-50 catalog so assume they are available.

Of the RHD Packards I've seen or read about from the 22nd series onwards, if a heater were ordered it would have been the 1947 under-dash style recirc. heater and not a fresh air heater. This includes one 1955 or 1956 Clipper RHD.
