Mal, thanks for the two photos. Though I can't make out the VN on the 1936 120, I can see the "R" at the end, indicating an RHD car which is curious enough, as it's Detroit built and RHD cars for the British Isles were almost exclusively built in Canada for import tax reasons. If you can read the VN, please let me know.

Michael123, thanks for the numbers, I've added them to the file which now totals nearly 3200 cars of which about 700 are from original dealer records.

Mal, the swarm intelligence of the PackardInfo crew gladly assists you in answering Dave's request. I did my best to decipher your riddle (picture attached) but to crack this hieroglyphics code it needs an electron-scan microscope or an in situ investigator.
Therefore I asked Graham to support us. I don't know if Graham owns a microscope but he owns a Packard, the one which is up for sale on ebay.



Graham has been so kind to reply: "... the numbers on the makers plate are as follows, 140219R , the ody numbers on the other pictures are 248147 and the spares number is EX 56468, the HC on the head is for a High compression cylinder head ..."

Gusha, thanks for the detective work, but now I'm really confused. The 1402 19R would denote a "senior" Eight right hand drive Detroit-built chassis (#19) built for export and custom coachwork, but the engine and body dash or theft-proof number clearly correspond to a "120" and not an "Eight" (in 1935, 1936 and 1937 the junior cars did not have end brackets for the theft-proof number).

Or am I missing something?

Dave, I hope that Mal won't chafe at me when I put my nose in his find.

6 years ago we talked about the Canadian RHD production and in the same thread this UK dealership was mentioned.

Gusha, Leonard Williams was Packard's exclusive dealer in England for many years, from well before WW II up to and including 1956. Not sure aboug 1957-58. Doesn't help clarify the question with regard to the patent plate and VN, unfortunately.
