According to the Packard Engine Serial Number Reference listing here on PackardInfo, 9 main 327's in '53 were in the Serial Number range of L400000 to L418552. To cast your search a little further afield, '51 & '52's also had 327's that came with 9 mains, their Serial Number ranges are J600001 to J610000 and K600000 to K605000 respectively.

You can tell the difference between a 5-main and a 9-main by counting the oil galley plugs on the RH side of the engine. Here's a picture of my 327, look for the little plugs a few inches above the pan. I have 5 so it's a 5-main engine.

Remember that 51-54 are side mounted engines, while '50 and prior are front mounted engines. So a 50 or prior block may be an easier swap.

Hi
Did Packard issue any TSB detailing the installation of postwar straight eight engines in 1935-37 models? Steve
