I have 2 Packard's both straight 8's. Both of my running hot issues were caused by the vacuum advance being nonop. Easy check....start with the easy solutions first.
hope this helps. Regards, Steve

When running, my '54 points at the "M" in the word TEMP when warmed up on a normal day, and the "P" on a hot day. I have never had it point at the actually "H" mark.
I did install a new temp sender when I sorted that car as I didn't know the condition of the one that was in there.

I have been down this road with our 1949 Deluxe, 'Miss Prudence' and have been successful. If you with to discuss all that I have had to do, give me a call at 602-679-4252. The first thing that I would look at in your position is the condition of your distributor. Are the bearings worn out? Are the advance springs worn out? Does the vacuum advance work properly? Also, your timing might work better at 12 degrees before top dead center, rather than 6 degrees.

There are plenty of them in Hemmings. I have never used one but plan to do so. I have aux gauges for engine temp and oil pressure I want to get rid of, But, not until the ones on the dash are rebuilt. Any recommendations for a vendor, anyone?
