I'm not sure what to make of this. A 39 super 8 with a 38 super 8 dash. A formal sedan with screaming colors. Looks like someone take some liberties putting this together.

Based on the bit of chrome continuing from the center of the windshield up onto the top and the side hood trim, it looks like a '38 to me but my familiarity with prewar only goes back to 1941. Yeah, that color is truly unfortunate on that car.

I would guess that one could get a dalmatian dog for the front seat, put some fire department logos on the front doors and be a volunteer fireman. Other than that it has got to be one of the worst colors I've seen on a Packard and is in dire need of a paint job.

How in the world did they fit sidemounts on a 37 115?

More strangeness: Take a look at the trunk lid and while there notice the rear bumper brackets. Can't explain the trunk, but the brackets look like those used with the accessory luggage rack. What a mess.

I've seen one other (obviously non-factory) sidemounted six.
The tires are mounted higher and forward to move the back edge forward for the door to open (and I'm not sure this one still doesn't hit)

We've seen this "full body tattoo" packard a few years ago. New owner is probably tired of it already.

Maybe it was painted by the same guy who did "Further," the 1939 International Harvester bus used by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters during their acid trip across the U.S. in 1964, and later with members of the Grateful Dead. Like this car, Kesey lived in Eugene, OR.

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...
