Pete, I can't help with the missed letter and even if, with view to the date of your request it would be a bit late.
My comment is for bibliographical reference. The Technical Letter # 1768 you've searched for seems to be published between 1923 and 1924 as the below shown list indicates, while your car is from 1927. Attach file: (37.18 KB)

Because of the similarity or sameness in the engines and other mechanical components in that era an earlier published technical letter could still be relevant. Others with greater expertise of that era (DavidM?) may care to comment?

I just purchased a 336 Phaeton and it came with an original owners manual. I scanned the procedure to reset the timing after chain replacement. Hope this helps.
