I would think $55K would be about right for the car, providing the engine is in good shape. I bought my 726 a little over a year ago, it had cost $100k+ to restore and had about the same mileage on it's engine. I will have about $55K into my car by the time I get some engine issues sorted out.

But in the end, it's worth whatever somebody will pay for it!

i did purchase the 1930 model 726, 4 days ago from an 80 yr. old collector. he presently had 10 cars of which i bought his packard. the asking $ was 55, but we settled on $47,500. along with it comes a crated 1930 tranny. it is presently be shipped door to door in a enclosed transport from california to my ranch in the texas hill country.

i bought it site unseen, which i guess is not very smart. however, i had the past president of an organization called, classis cars of america, look at many pics and ask questions of the owner; and bought the thing at what i think is below market price.

it looks awesome, time will tell if was a plus or minus purchase site unseen.

thanks for your comments...bob

I once bought a 1929 626 sedan based on photos and it was a bad experience that I managed to extricate myself from and got my money mostly returened. I hope that your experience will be a much happier one. I would still dearly love to own an early 30's Packard. They are such awesome cars.

G'day Bob,

Glad to hear you purchased the '30 726. Don't forget to add it to the Owner Registry when it arrives. You and the 726 will be able to keep Scott and his 726 company there!

Bob,

Congratulations on getting the car. I hope it is in great shape. If you are interested, I keep a website on the progress with my 733 atpackardpaddock.com/ .

As for driving, I do my best to stay off the freeways. Otherwise, I just drive around like normal. Obviously, I don't do this in my 30 (since it has no wheels right now!), but in my 34. I find most folks give me a pretty wide berth, as the car is quite unique.

I am hoping to get out to Fredricksburg and the surrounding areas over Xmas.

Do you get up around Austin often? If so, we should try to get together.

Cheers,

Tom

I suppose time has gone on by and everything gets more expensive. My point is this unrestored survivor was bought for $8,000 in 1991 and still thought it was a regular car.

I did make the new shackle bolts for it and recreated throttle linkage so the wretched fork lift carb could be replaced by a Detroit Lubricator Model 51. This carb really woke it up!

Here are some links to where I have it in my blog on Practical Machinist:
