John, Packard's admonition about reaming applied to oil-impregnated bushings. If your kit has plain bushings then reaming is OK.

Thanks

Haven't ordered the bushings and pins yet as that is a post Xmas 12/3 parade job. Once I receive them, I will know what to do

If you are looking for the .868 reamer new and used are commonly available on ebay at varying price points. Here is one. There are several new .869 Chevy labeled reamers available too.

Thanks for the info Howard. Finally got the new king pin kit and it mics.865. Of course my procrastination resulted in that ebay reamer getting sold. Scrounging the web a bit now, not certain I want to pay $80 for a tool I will use twice

I do have the Chevy/GMC/Packard 0.868 reamer/driver. But sad to say I've also had far to many really bad experiences loaning tools to folks in this hobby and I'm reluctant to do it again without a sizable refundable security. PM me if you want to proceed along those lines. I feel badly about wanting to proceed this way but I've just been taken advantage of too many times.

Having them reamed at a local machine shop costs very little. If you don't need to have the tool in your toolbox, I suggest that route.

Thanks Owen, I feel the same way about tools, have lost many over the years to people that have "borrowed". Unfortunately for me, I forget sometimes who borrowed them!
I'll let you know, leaning towards a local shop at the moment, need to talk to them about doing the engine this winter anyway
Question on the engine, pretty certain rod bearings are in dire need. If the crank gets turned, are oversize bearings readily available and if so from whom?

I concur West, leaning that way, talking to a local shop when I pull the spindles off in 2 weeks. Have the annual Christmas parade coming up and don't want to jeopardize that if something was to go awry with the king pins or spindles. Can't see how, but Murphy has been known to reside in the corner of my garage and has come out to assist in projects on occasions
