Glad you didn't get hurt with the hood! You have a story to tell when people ask about the scratch on the fender.

Glad you didn't get clobbered by that hood too hard. I've wondered whether those hoods unlatched from both sides could become lose if not latched on one side. Buick had the same style on their cars for a while.

Gents, for the thoughts. Fortunately only my pride and ego were hurt, that's if you discount some scratches and scrapes on the Packard! A lesson was learned the hard way and hopefully sets an example and warning to others to: "Don't try this at home".

With my Son-in-Law, Nick, on the left side and me on the right, we lifted the bonnet(hood) up then rotated it level and walked it back over the engine bay. But, before we could rotate it, the trolley jack sitting in front of the Packard had to be moved out of the way. Because Nick and I had our hands full my wife, Kath, was press-ganged into pulling the jack back out of the way speedily ? la Formula I pit crew. With the speed and expertise she demonstrated, she just might be able to swing a job like that if given half a chance. Kath is not normally "hands on" when it comes to working on Packards. Her "help" usually encompasses only checking whether head, tail and brake lights together with turn indicators are working or not. Once the bonnet(hood) was positioned over the engine bay it was lowered into place. However it didn't sit right on the right side, left was perfect, necessitating a number of re-positionings before it seated properly. But why was the jack where it was in the first place? Because it is postioned so that when I drive into the garage it provides a marker to gently edge the Packard up to. It's also a good place to store it and, in this instance, provided a stop so that the bonnet(hood) when it fell went so far and no further. Now the bonnet is back on the car again and locked in place. And, in future, will only be opened one side at a time with the other side always locked in the closed position.
Nick and Kath for your help.

Took the Packard, and Kath, for an easy 31 mile round trip run to Fitzroy Falls today. Just to give the old girl, the Packard not Kath, some exercise. Photo was taken in our daughters backyard and had hoped to get a good photo of the Packard at the end of autumn. However left it too late as most of the trees leaves have either turned brown or fallen. Besides it's Winter now! Second photo, my daughters taken a couple of weeks ago, is the colour of foliage I'd hoped to capture.

Very nice Mal, glad you have the old girl (not Kath) back together and running properly...We're looking at summer here in Arizona and today will be a bit over 100 degrees f. Just came back from breakfast, and it is 92 at the moment. Still nice, but by 11 or noon it will be enough to make the tourists stay in the pool! Ernie in Arizona.

Mal, I just noticed how close the Egyptian hood ornament came to being damaged. A bit of good luck there!

It is summer in Austin, hot and humid.

The 115C Six is enjoying its new owner and life in Belgium. Only the Model A Roadster Hot Rod is left. May sell it too. We shall see.

We are looking forward to the move back to Santa Fe. It is over 7,000 ft. above sea level, with little humidity, and moderate temps. House in Austin does not want us to leave. Numerous AC problems crept up and needed to be fixed. Plus, no offers after six weeks.

I'll keep you and others posted on the progress of the move.

Take care.

John,

You're right, very fortunate indeed that the "Egyptian" survived without damage.

You're certainly thinning the herd, pity, I was looking forward to ride in the rod if I ever dropped in!

Good luck with the house sale and the move to Santa Fe.

Your autumn leaves look lovely Mal, we lost almost all of ours in a storm several weeks ago, dreary bare branches down here now. I love how your car's colour really complements the autumn colours; beautiful tones from opposite sides of the colour wheel.

John,

"your car's colour really complements the autumn colours; beautiful tones from opposite sides of the colour wheel."

Sounds almost poetry like. Wish I could convey the sorts of images your words describe.
