Day 4 was a run to Timboon which seves as a stop on a Gourmet Food Trail. One of the Packards, the '26 333 Limo suffered mechanical problems dropping a valve lifter on the way there, but managed to limp home on 5 cylinders. After Timboon, including the Whiskey distillery and Ice Creamery it was off to Port Campbell for lunch. Later it was off to see the Twelve Seven Apostles.

Day 5, the last day of the Rally proper was quite a diverse one.

First, all Rally participants walked down to the breakwater, about a 10 minute stroll from the Lady Bay Resort, our Rally headquarters. There we learned about Maremma dogs, and was introduced to one of them. For a dramatised view of the reason for this have a look at the Aussie film "Oddball". Although it's only about 30% accurrate.

Then off to Allensford Cheese World, where we had lunch and toured their museum. When we'd arrived the Packards had been directed to park by members of the Warrnambool and District Historical Vehicle Club and we were due to visit their clubhouse after the Cheese factory. But, because their "clubhouse" is still in the process of being built a couple of their members invited us to their houses to see their vehicles. One of these blokes had turned up in his sons '24 226 Tourer and he led the convoy to his house. There we found an 852 Auburn Convertible, '30 V16 Cadillac Club Sedan, '32(?) V12 Auburn Sedan, Vauxhall 23/60(I think?), Brass era Sunbeam and a Rover. He also had another shed with motorcycles, predomininently Indians. Then it was off to the other blokes house. He had 2 Lincoln Tourers/Phaetons(I'll let the experts decode what they were exactly) a '23(?) and a '32(?) and a brass era Swift(No I've never heard of one either). On the point of leaving when he said would you like to see the 1899 Benz AND the 1902(?) CDO, those in the know will know what that means and those that don't will, when they see the photo. Note, these last two cars were in his house along with a treasure trove of antiques and collectables!

Thanks for the fine photos, it was a great turn out, glad to see your Packard group is so active. The '24 226 touring is one interesting car. I notice it seem luxury makes frequently have either disk or wire wheels. Were they preferred in our country?

Of the two Lincolns, the '23 would be a Model L Police Flyer with a Brunn-designed American Body Co. seven passenger touring. Large city police departments used these because they were fast and fitted with four wheel brakes for better performance when chasing miscreants. Oddly enough, they were the only open touring with outside door handles.

The '32 is a Twelve Model KB with Dietrich-designed Murray-build touring, the style started in the '31 K line, lasted through 1936 on a catalogue custom basis. The KB is the largest 448 ci fork and blade 65 degree twelve cylinder, the zenith of the Classic Lincoln. Unhappily, the KB was an early casualty of the Depression, it was only manufactured for 1932 and 1933 model years. Subsequent Lincoln twelves were based on the more modern '33 KA 382 ci which was bored to 3 1/8 for 414 ci for the '34 K through the last '39 K, a few leftovers which were sold as '40 models.

Agreed on the photos and continue to be impressed by the number of cars you guys seem to be able to get together for your meets. Some very nice cars in this one and considering from what I have read about your country and how far and sometimes hard it can be to get from point A to B, it is amazing all the participants just seem to take it in stride and make it look like a few hundred kilometer journey to meet another member is a pleasant afternoon drive.

That is a really nice looking 46-7 Clipper and the gray two tone is interesting. Have seen blue and gray combos but two grays does not seem to be as common a treatment and with the darker gray on top it appears to be reversed from what the fact book said 21st series code AC would be. Wonder if it is stock or a respray preference. Would you or the owner have any more photos to share? Any of the interior or engine compt showing changes for RHD?

As a joke, I gave my schoolteacher neighbor a copy of the rules for teachers and students from 1850. She broke out laughing but teaches elementary grades and said her students are too young to appreciate the rules. I could imagine the hoots and laughs of disbelief if she showed what was expected in the day to modern high school students.

Car was restored about 30 years ago and still presents very well. Just out of hibernation a few months ago because the owner, Allan, was distracted for some years by an XK150!

Thanks Mal. Would love to see more photos if you get another chance to take any. Noticed the car has a different and very nicely integrated radio antenna. It is not the roof or fender antenna that would have been factory and don't recall seeing one mounted like it before. Wonder if it was a later aftermarket or something done locally at the time by the import agent when replacing or modifying the radio to pick up Australian frequencies. Looks like it can be extended but seems like you would almost need a ladder or very long reach to do it.
