Packards Everywhere!

Was exploring fire roads around the Prettyboy Reservoir here in Baltimore County and stumbled across some highly deteriorated abandoned cars including a 56 Plymouth, a 56 Chevy and....a fraction of a 38 120 (I think). Will be going back with some wrenches to rescue the intact transmission stabilizer.

Good find, Ross. That stainless door handle looks like it would be worth skiving too?? ('38?) Chris.

That's a pot-metal 1939 locking (passenger side) handle and definitely worth saving!

Ross had put '1938 (I think)' in his initial post and I had put '38? as I thought it looked like a '39, maybe even a '40. You're right though Don that it would be pot metal as '38 was the last year of the stainless versions, right? I DID initially think it must be stainless as with the door so rusted, and the handle not looking 'that bad', I couldn't imagine pot metal still looking that shiny!! LOL I personally like the stainless iterations better and they can be had for a lot less than rechroming the pot metal originals. I changed all 4 on my car to stainless - never going to be 'putting her in the show' anyway. Chris.

Chris, Yes the 1938 handles looked very similar but had a stainless cap over them and were perhaps a tiny bit wider because of it. I'm not sure what was underneath and may very well have also been pot-metal but the cap helped it stay good looking. On the one in the photo, I viewed it on my iPad where it's easy to zoom in closely and considerable pitting is obvious when viewed that way.

Yeah Don, the stainless don't 'pit', but they are definitely prone to 'dents'. Everything's a trade-off, right?!?!? Chris.

Clippy, the extra-versatile 53 Clipper flatbed came in for his once every 66-year window mechanism and door lock lubrication. Oh yes, and clean several pounds of despicable mung out of the bottoms of the doors.

Whilst there he got his newly painted window frames and the spiffy NOS Patrician leather option door panels. Several sets of these still available to tone up any 51-54 4 door at very moderate cost. Please inquire.

Will stitch up a tan vinyl headliner as soon as the navy blue windlace arrives.
