Guscha:

Cost was the primary consideration for municipalities and institutions when purchasing ambulances, the DeSoto Suburban was factory priced as follows: 1946: $2,175; 1947: $2,193; 1948: $2,631. Although not as well equipped as the Packard-Henney offerings, for the first aid/transport function they served, they were good enough for most smaller operations to use with the minimal equipment they could add for the purpose.

Hi Guscha,

Thanks again for your many copies of various American city newspapers that trumpeted the advent of Packard's mechanical air-conditioning for 1940.

I particularly found interesting the copy of the Austin American Statesman article, 11-10-39, from response #191. Austin is a few miles from my home.

Have you noticed the canned wording in each article? Each paper mentioned the local Packard dealer and manager, then continued on with Packard's advertising suggested copy.

You are certainly on a roll. I sure wish you could find images of the 1941 Packard equipped with the Cellarette displayed in one of the 1941 auto shows. Packard displayed it in the New York, Chicago, and San Francisco shows. It was probably the same car, transported to each show.

I have had discussions with the Chicago Auto Show historian, who supplied me with the auto show flyer, "See the Motor Car that Makes Ice Cubes." While he supplied the flyer copy, no images are in his file of the 1941 Packard with the Cellarette during the car show.

Cheers,
Allen

Yes, I also had got the feeling if you read one article you've read them all, just a little change here and there. Plus I learned a new word "boon", that's what keyed me on the repeat wording in the articles.

I wonder if the word boon was more generational or regional as to why you got to learn a new word.

I remember it was a favorite expression my grandmother used. It was frequently heard when she would talk about something she liked and it was "that was (or will be) quite a boon". More often though when I did something wrong but one of her friends kids I also might know did it to her satisfaction it would be "Why couldn't you do it that way. X or Y will be quite a boon to society when he (or she) grows up but I worry you will never amount to a hill of beans".

Steve (58L8134), as always substantial and well-researched.

Allen (archiveman2977), my pleasure!

Yes. PMCC conducted a central office in NYC to organize worldwide publicity and regional campaigns.

I don't know if I'm able to find a specific image, even when a Chicago Auto Show historian can't but believe to know how to make you happy nevertheless.

Yes, I am flirting with the idea of getting a complimentary copy of the A/C book for Howard (HH56).
