After an uncommonly long wait, my 56 400 is at last painted. Here is the goal: one of the last print ads from Packard in the Saturday Evening Post. Productions record show they never actually built an all red 400. But here is a major step in that direction.
I first drove this car as a teenager and was bowled over by its performance. A few years ago the long-time owner passed and I snapped it up based on the that 40+ year old memory. It is still one of the best driving V8 cars I have encountered. It was black and white from the factory, but these 56 cars look about three blocks long when in a solid color.

How is the interior? That paint with a #186 interior would be… something else.

Ross, here are two old photographs for your inspiration. They were contributed by -> Philip from Canada. The captions state that the photos show a factory pickup.
-> image #1 "Front view of Packard prototype pickup that was used at the factory. Was in Ogdensburg but not sure where it is now. Will see if I can find it." -> image #2 "1949 Packard prototype pickup used at the factory. Was owned by Bill Hull of Ogdensburg." The images below have been minimally edited (edges trimmed, color slightly retouched, sharpened, etc.) for better visibility.

I have no doubt that if Ross made a packup with that body he could considerably improve the look. I seem to recall a pickup conversion of that body style that has Earle C Anthony painted on the doors. It looks halfway decent so if that is a true factory runaround, prototype or not, maybe looks didn't matter.
The early 60s Studebaker pickups made from the Lark body and Dodge bed didn't look half bad either even if the bed was an inch or so on each side wider than the cab.

I have long heard of this pickup, and even know Bill Hull, but this is the first decent photos I have seen of it. If someone has a 48-50 with a lot of rust at the rear I'd be happy to gin something up!

Decorated the shop with something colorful that makes me feel festive: NOS bearings.

Beautiful Christmas tree ornaments that, due to their longer life, the cat can't break!
