Hello Fellow Enthusiasts,

My name is Rudy Samsel, and I am the Co-Founder of GuysWithRides.com, a dealer-free website for classic car enthusiasts.

This is not a plug for my website, but rather a request for knowledge on a particular car.

The Dutchess County New York Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans ("DAV") organization recently received a donation of a 1937 Packard Super 8 Touring Sedan, serial number 1014 282.

The long-term owner, Nicolas L. Pitch, recently donated the car to the DAV with the express wish that the proceeds benefit their local chapter.

Unfortunately, the chapter organizers do not have any history about the car, and I would like to provide potential bidders with the most complete information possible about what appears to be a stunning and rare example.

Any information your membership can provide about this car will be greatly appreciated and any interested parties can check out the listing at the following website address:guyswithrides.com/product/lot-24121/

Thank you for your time and help with this matter.

Sincerely,

Rudy Samsel

Nothing on the specific serial number history...try Bob Supina...he has roster data back to the 1960's on some vehicles...long shot:packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/profile/userinfo.php?uid=441

One item I note. This is a Super 8 (senior) and most things look correct. However, the tail-light lenses and the chrome surround bezel are the Junior style and ultimately should be substituted with the blue center jewel type "bullet" shaped lense and more curved bezel by whomever wins the bidding. Otherwise, a very nice looking older restoration that will make a fun driver.

Blue Dots (as they are known) were standard on 1937 Super Eights? Interesting but it should be noted that they are illegal in California and possibly also in other states.

The lenses were dot style, with red jewels, not blue.

Ah, makes sense. The earlier post suggested they were blue.

Rudy, I have just reviewed all the images on your site and have many comments.
+Your title indicates 1014-284; your copy states 1014-282.
According to my records, it should be 1014-284.

According to my records, it was originally owned by a "J.J. Flattery & Sons" and it had 7 bullet holes in it.
I wish I had all the details; it is only what was provided to me many years ago.

+It would be very beneficial to post an image of the data plate and an image of the embossed firewall #
Of course, some words must be added about the the condition of the engine and whether it has been recently on a 500 mile tour or if it has been stored for 40 years.

Since you will be listing it in an auction, be aware that, while the car is presentable, it was not restored to original.
Besides the tail light issue, I notice the following issues:

+ The upholstery and pattern are not standard for the Super-Eight.
+ The air cleaner is not 1937 Super-Eight
+ The horn button is not 1937 Super-Eight
+ There appears to be some non-standard linkage below the heater hoses on the right side of the engine.
+ The coil base is missing
+ The heater hose attachment to the left side of the engine is non-standard
+ The instrument surround should be a brushed finish with accents.
+ rear foot rest is missing
+ rear arm rests are incorrect
+ hub caps are for 1938
+ the paint scheme is non-standard.

Please PM me for additional info.

...As for rarity...
I have been documenting the existence of 1937 Seniors since 1967.
There are no factory records of production numbers, but with 97.3% accuracy I can state that 617 1014s were produced and I have data on 22 remaining cars.
I, myself, owned a 1014 from 1963 to 1969. The embossed firewall # was 398103. Unfortunately, I have lost track of it.
